Django: Web development on journalism deadlines
Simon Willison (Yahoo!)

Django was created in 2004 by a team at a local newspaper to handle the tough challenges involved in creating custom web applications on tight deadlines. The Python framework was open-sourced in 2005, and a vibrant community has developed around it, resulting in many important enhancements to the framework.
This talk will discuss the problems that Django was designed to solve and the environment in which it evolved. It will provide a high-level technical overview of the framework and show some examples of Django in action. The success of Django’s release as an open-source project will be used to demonstrate some of the benefits that sharing core infrastructure can provide.
